Multi-read content it worked for me: in life and leadership

When a book is born in the blue moon that brings us surprising new insights. It has worked for me: in life and in leadershipis the book; it works hard, speaks openly, respects others and analyzes carefully.Colin Powellis an unusual man with common contacts. He likes to talk because he is very good and likes to travel. In addition, he enjoys meeting people who have paid to hear some of his remarkable wisdom and perhaps shake the hand that has shaken with every great world leader over the last quarter century. .

In this book, the famous general, former secretary of state and national security adviser presents the ideas and anecdotes he forged in front of a wealthy audience while working for multinational organizations.

In addition to the rich history that General Powell lays out, he distills aphoristic principles from anecdotes of teenage summer jobs, military orders, diplomatic wrath and celebrity encounters. He condensed these principles right into chapter one—where you can’t help but consider them—in what he calls “13 Reasons Why.” No, sorry, they’re called the 13 rules.

This is the right time to recall all his rules of life and leadership. Entrepreneurs in particular need to focus on this

  1. It’s not as bad as you think. It looks better in the morning. This rule reflects an attitude, not a prediction. I always try to stay confident and optimistic no matter how difficult the situation is. Everything will be fine. You will make them better.
  2. Get angry then get over it. I’ve worked hard over the years to make sure that when I get angry, I get over it quickly and never lose control of myself.
  3. Avoid bringing your ego so close to where you are now that your ego goes with you when your position goes down. Accept that your position is to blame, not your ego. Loyalty strongly contradicts, and loyalty is faithfully enforced.
  4. It can be done! Don’t immediately surround yourself with skeptics. At the same time, don’t dismiss skeptics and peers who provide you with solid counterpoints.
  5. Be careful what you choose. You can have it. Don’t rush anything.
  6. Don’t let negative facts get in the way of making the right decision. Leading the upper echelons is often a matter of great instinct. Often only a fact analysis shows the right choice. In most cases, you need an assessment to choose from the best practices.
  7. You can’t make other people’s decisions. You shouldn’t let someone else do it for you. Because ultimate responsibility rests with you, make sure you have choices and don’t respond to other people’s pressures and desires.
  8. look at the little things Ultimately, success lies in the little things, lots of little things. Leaders need to have a sense of the little things – a sense of what’s going on deep down in an organization, where the little things are. Supporters, the military, live in a world of small things. Leaders must find ways, formally and informally, to gain insight into this world.
  9. credit sharing. People need to be recognized and valued just as much as food and water. Share the credit, admit mistakes, and calmly find out what happened and fix it. Whenever you look outside of yourself for the cause of any of your actions, that is the excuse, not the reason.
  10. Stay calm. Kind. In the “heat of battle” – whether military or corporate – kindness and composure give followers security and strengthen their faith. Kindness connects you with other people in a relationship of mutual respect. If you care about your followers and are kind to them, they will recognize you and care about you.
  11. Have a long run. Be demanding. Purpose is the goal of a vision. It energizes that vision, energizes and drives it. It has to be positive, powerful and serve the better angels of an organization.
  12. Do not give advice about your fears or opponents. Fear is a normal human emotion. It’s not a killer per se. We can learn to recognize when fear is overwhelming and train to overcome and brave our fear. On the other hand, when we don’t understand that fear is normal and needs to be controlled and overcome, it paralyzes us and prevents us from moving in the right direction. We will no longer think clearly or analyze rationally. We prepare for it and control it; We have never let it rule us. If it happens, we can’t lead.
  13. Persistent optimism is a multiplier. Being optimistic all the time, believing in yourself, believing in your purpose, believing that you will win, and showing passion and confidence is exponential. If you believe and prepare in advance, followers will believe.

This book is a fun read and one to add to your book collection.
