Multi-read content satisfaction by the rolling stones

It was a spring morning in 1965, just weeks before the start of the Rolling Stones’ third North American tour, when Keith Richards rolled out of bed and noticed something strange. The Philips cassette player he kept in his London bedroom appeared to be broken. He had put new tape in the machine the day before, but now the tape was at the end of the spool, somehow winding up 45 minutes of usable tape. Curious, he rewound the tape and played it.

A three-part guitar riff rolls out of the speakers, followed by some basic chords and a simple chorus. “I can’t help but be content,” the tune was sung by Richards in a sleepy, sleepy voice. After a few repetitions, the music falls silent, making way for 40 minutes of snoring. Richards appears to have woken up with a tune in his head, recorded it on acoustic guitar, and then fell asleep.

Who knew what dirty, weird things Keith Richards dreamed of? There are things that are better left unsaid. Whatever the subject, something angered Richards so much that he climbed out of bed and yelled his satisfaction into the tape recorder. Out of that disappointment grew the Rolling Stones’ biggest single to date, not to mention one of the most enduring rock songs of all time.

Like most Rolling Stones classics, “(I Can’t Get) Satisfaction” is a team effort to which Mick Jagger adds his own contributions on May 6, 2018. 1965. Actually, the Stones were supposed to give a concert in Clearwater, Florida. After the first four songs, their fans went wild and the concert was cancelled. To prevent further chaos, the musicians were asked to return to and stay at the Jack Tar Harrison Hotel. Depressed, Jagger walked to the outdoor pool and retyped the lyrics to the song Richards had started.

Ten years later, the Church of Scientology acquired the Jack Tar Harrison Hotel and began holding religious retreats at the same pool. However, there’s nothing sacred about Jagger’s lyrics that hit the modern world — her commercialism, her obsession with consumer culture, her inability to arouse a 22-year-old man sick of the status quo with harsh, sexually suggestive language. The line “tryin’ to make some girl” is the most adventurous part, at least according to the creators ofCrap!,who later that year censored the Stones’ broadcast performance of “Satisfying” by cutting out all of the footage and stitching the remaining halves together. What the producers didn’t realize was why Jagger couldn’t “do a certain girl,” which is actually a slang reference to menstruation. “Honey, you better come back this weekend,” the girl explained to Jagger, “’cause you see I’m down.” That inscription is still there and might make any woman who understands Jagger’s jargon blush.

It’s exciting content, especially for 1965, but that didn’t stop the gratification of “(I Can’t Get No)” from becoming the Rolling Stones’ first hit in America. Oddly enough, Keith Richards had no plans to release the song, at least not the version we all know. The guys recorded it twice – first at Chess Studios on May 10th, then again at RCA Hollywood Studios on May 12th – but both versions were trumpet-free. Richards always assumed the trumpet would play the song’s signature riff, and even used the Gibson Fuzz Box at RCA Studios to mimic the sound of a saxophone. It was meant to be just a placeholder, a raspy piece of music, but Fuzz Box gave the song a loud, frenetic energy that everyone seemed to enjoy more. Despite Richard’s objections, the guitar riff was retained, the song was released less than four weeks after recording, and the trumpet stayed off the “(I Can’t Get No) Satisatis” list until Otis Redding recorded her own version later that year.

“The fluff tune has never been heard before, and it is a sound that captures everyone’s imagination,” wrote Richards in his 2010 autobiography.life. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s just the dub. [But] ten days on the road and it’s number one nationwide! Summer ’65 record… I learned that lesson – sometimes you can work too hard. Not everything is designed to suit your taste and preferences. ”

Even in their early 20s, the Rolling Stones displayed impeccable taste in music, and “Satisfaction” focused their widespread influence. Self-imposed guitar riff in Martha’s trumpet arrangement

“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfying” had a near-indefinite shelf life, immortalized through decades of radio broadcasts and generations of aspiring guitarists dabbling in single-string riffs after learning the introduction of “Smoke On The Water.” . Other artists have denounced their own song, from Otis Redding’s brass rendition to Britney Spears’ ill-fated cover. Tom Waits even brought a lyrical theme to “Satisfied,” a song from his latest album. But there’s something about the original version that just doesn’t seem reproducible.

“It has all the ingredients,” explains Mick JaggerRolling StoneFounder Jann Wenner in 1995. “It has a very compelling title. It had a very catchy guitar riff and a great guitar sound that was original at the time. And it sums up the feeling of the times, which is alienation. A kind of sexual alienation. Alienation is not a perfect word, but one that will do. ”
