After a bloody ambush near Arcadia, Louisiana and a dramatic funeral in downtown Dallas, Bonnie Parker was buried in Fish Trap Cemetery in West Dallas, 2 miles from the Barrow.

However, due to frequent vandalism, it was moved to Crown Hill in 1945. Crown Hill is near the home of Billie Jean Parker, Bonnie’s older sister, who raised Linder after her parents, both alcoholics, lost custody. Young Bonnie Ray Parker spent three years in a Houston orphanage and was seven years old before Billie Jean, known as Jean, found her. Jean changed her niece’s name to Rhea Leen when she was in 4th grade to avoid ridicule.

The family has never said much about their aunt, and Linder said her first husband’s parents, who were from West Dallas, never knew of her connection to Bonnie Parker.

Linder had three husbands, all of whom are dead. “I didn’t do that,” she quipped. She said you should sacrifice your life for a man who isn’t in the family.

“I couldn’t imagine being so devoted to another person,” says Linder. “She chose to go with him because she knew what the outcome would be.”

Their Lakewood friends Charles Heard and Sherry Childress joined the Barrows in the 1990s. Heard bought Clyde’s death shirt, the shirt he was wearing when the lawyers put bullets through the Ford, from Clyde’s youngest brother, Marie. He later sold it to a casino but they all became friends. Heard used to help Marie and Blanche Barrow, Buck’s wife, with memorabilia auctions and booked gigs to sign autographs at conventions.

He feared that the subject of burials would be off-limits for the Parkers, but his wife, Childress, was not so reticent.

On the day they met, Childress asked Linder why Bonnie and Clyde weren’t buried together. At first, Linder rejected the idea.

Now she believes moving the grave was the right thing to do. Bonnie and Clyde are criminals. But they are also American folk heroes. Rhea Leen and Buddy heard from “fans” of their ancestors around the world. Most think they should be buried together, they said.

If they do, it should be soon. Linder had two children, but her son died in an accident at the age of 20. Her eldest daughter has no children. You’re the last of the Parkers.
