On April 6, officials covered the lawn here with pinwheels, which have become a national symbol for child abuse prevention.

Cabarrus County’s Child Protective Services Team and Sheriff’s Office joined DA-Elect Ashlie Shanley and other community partners in a special child abuse awareness ceremony on the front steps of the Government Center.

The organizations shared their frontline experiences and placed pinwheels around the garden to call attention to the importance of the social and emotional well-being of all children and their families.

We’re sending a big thank you to each of the individuals who work or volunteer their time to protecting children. Let’s continue to make sure our children lead the best lives possible.

Cabarrus is celebrating National County Government Month to showcase the many ways county governments help create healthy, safe and vibrant communities.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Counties THRIVE,” which demonstrates how counties help improve lives every day.

This year, we’re offering a new way for residents to learn more about the work we do—a walking tour of County facilities in downtown Concord.

The first stop is the Government Center, where a lot of County business is conducted and is home to several County departments such as the register of deeds office and tax administration. Our Board of Commissioners chambers is also located here and is where our commissioners meet. Come take a look inside.

The second stop is the Sheriff’s office; it is the primary law enforcement agency for Cabarrus County. On the walking tour you’ll hear about the various divisions and how they serve the people of Cabarrus.

The third stop is the new courthouse – Physical construction on the 250,000-square-foot Cabarrus Courthouse expansion/renovation began in 2020. The project will update the nearly 50-year-old building and help with a continued increase in court traffic. Come see all the new developments.

And the last stop is the Concord library, whose mission is to connect residents with information and resources that educate, enrich and empower. Sign up for a library card and take advantage of everything our Libraries have to offer.

Follow the County’s social media @CabarrusCounty as we highlight innovations in public health and safety, justice, and other county programs, AND announce how you can participate in the upcoming walking-tour.

Finally, this week, we’re back in the kitchen with Pam Outen who’s combining fresh strawberries, mango and pineapple for the ultimate chili lime salad. Check it out!

Early Childhood Education is identified as one of our top local needs and priorities. Jessica Black and her family members have always placed a high importance on reading.
