1. A World Trade Center

One World Trade Center became the tallest building in the United States in May 2013 when the final component of its spire was installed – bringing the total height of the building to 1,776 feet (541 m).

The elevation in feet indicates the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed.

One World Trade Center was designed by David Childs and developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Other designers include Hill International and The Louis Berger Group. WSP Cantor Seinuk is the structural engineer for the project while Tishman Construction is the prime contractor.

The project was completed at a cost of $3.9 billion.

2. Central Park Tower Building           

Also known as Nordstrom Tower,Central Park TowerIt is the second tallest building in the United States and the tallest residential building in the world.

The supertall building at 225 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan was completed in September 2019 with a final completion date of 2021.

It has 179 apartments starting on the 32nd floor, with the largest units having eight bedrooms and occupying more than 1,626 square feet of living space.

Central Park Tower was designed by Adrian Smith Gordon Gil Architecture and developed by Extell and the Shanghai Municipal Investment Corporation.

WSP Global was the structural engineer for the project while Lendlease was the prime contractor.

The project was completed at a cost of $3 billion.

3. Willis Tower         

Location 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois,Willis Tower(formerly Sears Tower) is a supertall office building that has been the tallest structure in the world for more than two decades.

In fact, upon its completion in 1974, the Willis Tower beat the World Trade Center in New York to become the tallest building in the world until it was surpassed by the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998.

However, it remained the tallest building in the United States for 41 years until it was surpassed by One World Trade Center in 2013.

The Willis Tower is famous for housing the Skydeck, the tallest observatory in the United States. Located on the 103rd floor at 412.4 m, the Skydeck is visited by more than a million people each year, making it one of Chicago’s most popular attractions.

4. 111 West 57th Street      

Also known as the Steinway Tower,111 West 57th Stis a micro apartment building on Manhattan’s Billionaires Row on the north side of 57th Street near Sixth Avenue.

Conceived as the world’s thinnest skyscraper and due for completion in 2021, 111 West 57th Street is a colorful addition to New York City’s already stunning skyline.

The skyscraper stands on a 60-foot-wide base, making it the thinnest tower in the world.

111 West 57th Street, which was completed in April 2019, was designed by SHoP Architects and built by JDS Development, Property Markets Group and Spruce Capital.

The project is estimated at $2 billion.

5. A Vanderbilt place        

A Vanderbilt place, fifth on the list of tallest buildings in America, is a supertall office tower at the intersection of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

Construction of building by SL Green Realty Corp. began on February 14, 2017 and the building was completed two months ahead of schedule on September 17, 2019.

At 1.7 million square feet, One Vanderbilt is the second largest office building in Manhattan, the largest office market in the United States. It officially opened in September 2020.

A Vanderbilt was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. Severud Associates was the structural engineer for the project while Tishman Construction was the prime contractor.

The project was completed at a cost of $3.31 billion.

6. 432 Park Avenue   

Located at 57th Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City,432 Park Avenueis a super high-rise residential building that houses 125 apartments and its own restaurant for its residents.

At the time of its completion in 2015, 432 Park Avenue was the tallest residential building in the world and the third tallest in the United States.

According to their website, the skyscraper — designed by architects Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill — inspired the construction of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

8. 30 Hudson yards   

Also known as the North Tower,30 Hudson yardsis a super high rise office building at the intersection of 33rd Street and 10th Avenue – close to Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea and the Penn Station area.

The building, which opened on March 15, 2019 after almost 5 years of construction, was designed to LEED Gold standards and was originally intended to be 480m taller before the structure was trimmed to 387m.

Located on the 100th floor at 30 Hudson Yards is The Edge, a 1,131-foot observatory that claims to be the tallest outdoor observatory in the Western Hemisphere.

Publisher: Willis Tower and One World Trade Center have taller observatories that are 1,354 feet and 1,268 feet, respectively. However, both bases are wound.

The building was designed by Shreve, Lamb and Harmon and developed by Empire State Inc., which also included John J. Raskob and Al Smith. Homer Gage Balcom was the project’s structural engineer, with Starrett Brothers and Eken as prime contractors.

It was completed at a cost of $40.9 million ($564 million today).

The United States was the birthplace of the skyscraper in the late 19th century, and had since dominated the world rankings for the world’s tallest buildings for many decades until the tall building craze shifted over to primarily East Asia and the Middle East. That’s not to say though that the US hasn’t given up on building skyscrapers, since the US has seen a major resurgence in skyscraper construction this past decade. In this video, we’ll be taking a look at the top ten tallest buildings in the United States for 2021. The buildings will be ranked based on the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s architecture height measurements which is the official way building heights are measured. More info here –
