Multi-read content girl before a mirror by pablo picasso

As the Spanish CubistPablo Picasso(1881 – 1973) met Marie-Thérèse Walter in 1927, she was 17, while he was in his forties, married and still living with his first wife, Olga Khokhlova, a Russian ballet dancer.

Although Picasso and Walter finally had a daughter together in 1935, Marie-Thérèse waited in vain for all those years to marry him. Their relationship ended when he had a new lover, photographer Dora Maar.

But mementos of their romance endured in art form. Some of Picasso’s finest paintings were inspired by Walter. Attracted by her youth, attractiveness, and sexual innocence, the Spaniards used Marie-Thérèse extensively as a muse, often depicting her in paintings of a certain sort. This porn.

InThe girl in front of the mirror(1932) we see 23-year-old Marie-Thérèse looking in the mirror and reaching for her reflection. Her face is divided in half representing the sun and the moon.

These halves suggest brightness (the sun) and serenity and fertility (the moon). ThatsunnyThe other half also wears heavy make-up, a nod to the young woman’s duality all day: stylish and mature at sunrise, but graceful and natural at night.

However, her reflection in the mirror reveals a completely different perception – the colors are gloomy and sad; Grief and pain are reflected in her. Her body is strangely distorted in the reflection, showing both her front and back.

For centuries the mirror has been used in art as a symbol of vanity, beginning with the myth of Narcissus who fell in love with his own reflection in the water and died for it. Based on this notion of vanity, many people assume that what Marie-Thérèse sees in the mirror is her aging, sagging body. Afraid of growing old, losing her beauty and youthfulness, she looks in the mirror to block her fate.

But the mirror can also symbolize the revelation of truth and show how things really are. Behind Marie-Thérèse’s bright exterior lies a misfortune. At the beginning of his career, the Spaniard chose the harlequin, a humorous character with a plaid outfit, as his personal symbol. The background of the painting, with its harlequin motif, suggests that Picasso himself may have been the cause of their displeasure. In 1932, five years after they met, Picasso was still living with Olga and was unable to build a house with Marie-Thérèse.

The problem with this theory, which is plausible from Marie-Thérèse’s point of view, is that Picasso was a very proud man who would hardly see himself as the cause of her unhappiness, even less because their relationship is said to be very smooth and content.

Most likely, the painting shows the difference between the way Picasso saw his beloved (left) and the way Marie-Thérèse actually saw her (right). As always with all great works of art, there is no odd interpretation in this painting. I findThe girl in front of the mirrorespecially relevant in today’s world where so many people – especially women – see themselves as uglier than they really are because they feel unable to live up to the high demands that society places on them.

This image of a young woman and her mirror reflection is riotous in color and chockablock with the pattern. It is one of the last in a major series of canvases that Picasso created between 1931 and 1932. According to The Museum of Modern Art’s founding director, Alfred H. Barr, Jr., Picasso said he “preferred this painting to any of the others,” which speaks to the painting’s dazzling visual and thematic complexity. Its primary subject is the time-honored artistic theme of a woman before her mirror, reinvented in strikingly modern terms. The girl’s smoothly painted profile, in a delicately blushing pink-lavender, abuts a heavily built-up and garishly colored frontal view in yellow and red. Allusions to youth and old age, sun and moon, light and shadow are compressed into a single multivalent face.

The female protagonist of ΩGirl before a Mirror actively reaches out to embrace the mirror that frames her reflection-a nominally fleeting image that paradoxically displays a pronounced physicality. The picture’s rigorous symmetrical organization creates a structure against which the curves of the model’s head and body, as well as those of her reflection, register all the more strongly. Her ithyphallic left arm and testicular breasts continue the game of visual punning seen in Picasso’s other paintings and sculptures of the time, in which facial and bodily features double as male and female sex organs.

Picasso painted Girl Before a Mirror as a doubled, abstract portrait. It portrays his beloved Marie Therese Walter. She was young and it shows in the left side of this work. Her face glows like a radiant sun. Her belly swells in pregnancy. She represents the full potential of youthful beauty here. But the Marie Therese in the mirror has passed through the looking glass of time. She’s aged. Her glorious blonde tresses hide behind a shawl. The pale luminosity of her cheeks has shifted into a ruddy mess.

There are many moon shapes built into the elder portrait in this young girl’s reflection. Just as the moon reflects the sun, this older version reflects our varied rungs in the ladder of life. The moon also represents phases and the natural pull of our tides. We all climb life’s ladder into old age. Even this young beauty will get old someday. Picasso expresses an eternal love for Marie Therese with this painting. He loves both sides of her. There’s the fresh fondness of today and the future vision of his love in the mirror on the wall. He paints them with equal care and attention.
