Multi-read content how to write the date in mla format

Among many other things,MLA Handbook(8th Edition) contains recommendations for writing dates and times. But what you need to know about the date and timecorrection of scientific articles?

In this article, we’ll explain the basics of MLA-style date and time.

Date in main text

If the author uses dates in the main body of the document, the MLA style recommends that they be written in full in one of the following formats:

  • Day-May-May (ex: April 12, 2021)
  • Month-Day-Year (example: April 12, 2021)

The latter is most common in American English, while the former is used in other English-speaking countries. But the MLA style does offer a choice as long as it’s used consistently.

If your customer uses the Month-Day-Year format between sentences,MLA HandbookWe recommend using a comma after the year and before it:

The 18th of July 1848 was an important day in the history of cricket.

So, as a proofreader, you may need to pay attention to the date stamp.

Dates in the MLA Works Citation List

Your client may also need to add dates for some sources in the document.list of cited works(ie the reference list at the end of the document). However, the rules for dates here are slightly different.

Most importantly, dates in MLA citations should be written in Day-Month-Year format to minimize the use of commas. This is true even if your client already uses the Month-Day-Year format in the main text of their work. It doesn’t matter what dialect your customers use.

The MLA style also allows to abbreviate months by more than four letters in the citations list:

Moon Abbreviation Moon Abbreviation Moon Abbreviation
January January. May none September September
February February. June none October October
steps March July none November November
April April August August December December.

This can help keep items in the specified worklist clear and concise. For correction, you should also check for the consistent use of month abbreviations.

MLA style watch

The MLA style is more about time than history, but it has a few key principles:

  • Use a 12-hour or 24-hour clock continuously.
  • When using a 12-hour time format, add “a.m.” or “pm.” for clarity. Make sure
  • leave space
  • between the hour and “a.m.” or “a.m.” When these abbreviations are used.
  • Include time zone information when provided.

These rules apply to both the time period specified in the content of your client’s work and the time period included in the work citation list items (for example, when comments were posted on the above post) blogs.
