Where is the original Declaration of Independence?

Fear not, Nicolas Cage did not actually steal the Declaration of Independence as portrayed in the filmNational Treasure. The original document is actually still in the National Archives Office in Washington DC.

You will find the entrance on Constitution Avenue between NW 7th Street and NW 9th Street. The building is surrounded by the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and the United States Navy Memorial Center.

Where is the National Archives Building

The Declaration of Independence is on the top floor of the National Archives in the Rotunda, where the Constitution and Bill of Rights are also located.

It’s totally freeVisit the National Archives, but there are a few things to consider before you embark on the journey.

Visit the Declaration of Independence

While there is no entrance fee to the National Archives, it can get quite busy between March and June or on weekends. On busy days it can take up to an hour just to enter the building!

If you want to avoid waiting in line, you can purchase a timed ticket, which allows you to skip most of the lines. These tickets have a $1.50 processing fee, but you don’t have to wait long to avoid long waits.

You can book tickets for up to 15 people. Admission from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with time tickets.

Alternatively, you can join a guided tour Monday through Friday at 9:45am. These tours are free but must be booked in advance.

preservation and protection of history

In terms of security, it is important to note that photography is not permitted inside the National Archives. If you want to avoid problems getting in, bring as little as possible.

As they maintain the integrity of these historical documents, their place in a condominium is truly more than just a decoration.

The Rotunda at the National Archives is kept cold and dark as light can cause ink to fade and parchment/paper can be destroyed, particularly of a fragile document hundreds of years old.

Also, one of the reasons photography is not allowed is that the light from the camera flash can damage these documents.

We didn’t always understand this, and for a long time the Declaration of Independence was kept near a window in the Patent Office building.

Every day sunlight comes in through the window which over the years has caused the ink on this document to fade making it much more difficult to read today than it used to be.

Today, the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Constitution and Bill of Rights, are preserved in dwellings designed to prevent future deterioration.

The National Archives building in Washington, D.C. holds the most important documents in American history. The most important document is the only surviving original signed copy of the Declaration of Independence. As you will see, the document is in poor shape and I explain why in the video. Having said that, there are some very interesting little-known facts about the Declaration which I discuss, including the mystery surrounding something that is on the Declaration that shouldn’t be there. In addition to the Declaration of Independence, the National Archives also features original copies of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If you want to see the original documents which laid the foundation for the United States of America, then a visit to the National Archives is a must!
