Comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi officially formed The Blues Brothers in 1978 as part of their musical sketches for the weekly show Saturday Night Live. In terms of characters, Akroyd Elwood is blues while Belushi Jake “Joliet” is blues. With the help of assembling Paul Shaffer’s band, the duo made their debut as musical guests to open the show with “Hey Bartender.” Later in this episode it’s “Soul Man”. That same year, the band’s debut album, Briefcase Full of Blues, was released and they performed as the band’s opening act.Grateful for the deadin San Francisco. The popularity of The Blues Brothers led to the 1980 film named after them, which also featured two comedians as characters in their band.

After Belushi

On March 5, 1982, John Belushi, aka Jake Blues, died of a deadly drug combination, proving that his body was too hard to recover from. His death hurt the Hollywood community and his fans, but the Blues Brothers kept the band going. John’s younger brother, Jim Belushi, joins the Blues Brothers as Zee Blues, alongside John Goodman as Mighty Mack McTeer. The two actors, along with Akroyd, have occasionally performed together on Saturday Night Live and for philanthropic and political causes, with Dan Aykroyd’s younger brother Peter Aykroyd also joining the band. This new line-up of The Blues Brothers performed at the 1997 Super Bowl to promote their upcoming film Blues Brothers 2000, which was released in theaters February 6, 1998 , and Cab Calloway, who were all present in the original film but died, before filming the sequel. Junior Wells, who also starred in the original and the sequel, died a month before the film’s release.

Discount

Formed in 1978, the Blues Brothers never officially disbanded despite changes in the roster. They have released two studio albums, five live albums, four soundtrack albums, eleven compilation albums and ten two spoilers. The band has five hits on the charts, but their greatest achievement isn’t just their music. It’s their ability to bring people together for the purpose of pure entertainment and not just for their audience. When a group of actors and musicians do what they do their own way because they enjoy it, the true heart and soul of quality music comes through at its best.
