Multi-read content toni cade bambara the lesson

“There?

You don’t even know what it is, fool. ”

“I do,” he said to Rosie Giraffe.

“It’s a microscope.”

“What am I doing with the microscope, idiot?”

“See everything.”

“How is it Ronald?” ask Miss Moore.

And Big Butt isn’t the first concept.

So here’s Ms. Moore talking about thousands of bacteria in a drop of water and a specific type of bacteria in a drop of blood and the millions and one living things in the air around us that we can’t see with the naked eye.

And why is she saying that?

Junebug came into town in this “naked” van and we rolled.

Then Miss Moore asked how much it had cost.

So we all cornered the window to blow it up and the price tag says $300.

So she then asked how long it would take Big Butt and Junebug to save their pocket money.

“Too long,” I said.

“Yes,” Sugar added, “has been growing faster by then.”

And Ms. Moore said no, you never outgrow the learning tools.

“Well, even med students and interns and blah blah blah.

And we were ready to choke Big Butt for even bringing it up.

“This is four hundred and eighty dollars,” said Rosie Giraffe.

So we stacked them all over the place to see what she was hinting at.

My eyes tell me it’s a piece of glass shattered by something heavy and ink that doesn’t look like it’s dripping into the cracks, then the whole thing goes in the kiln or something.

But for $480 it doesn’t make sense.

“It’s a paperweight made of semi-precious stones fused together under extreme pressure,” she explained slowly, her hands busy with the mining and all the factory work.

“So what’s a paperweight?” asked Rosie Giraffe.

Flyboy, the wise man from the east, said: “Weigh paper with dumbbells.

“Not directly,” Ms. Moore said, which is what she says when you’re warming up or walking.

“It’s meant to weigh down the paper so it doesn’t spill and make a mess on your desk.

“So Sugar and I got together straight away and then we went to the Mercedes, which was neater.

“We don’t leave paper on the desk in my class,” Junebug said, assuming Ms. Moore was crazy or that she was lying.

“Then stay home,” she said.

“Don’t you have a calendar at home and a pencil case and a marker and a can opener on your desk to do your homework?”

And she knows what our houses look like because she takes care of it at every opportunity.

“I don’t even have a desk,” says Junebug.

“We are not?”

“No.

And I don’t get any homework either,” Big Butt said.

“And I’m not even home,” Flyboy said as he did at school, to keep white people from turning their backs on him and mourning his loss.

Sending this poor kid to camp posters is his specialty.

Mercedes said: “I know.

“I have a box of stationery on my desk and a picture of my cat.

My godmother bought stationery and desks.

There was a large rose on each sheet and the envelopes smelled like roses.”
